I wanted to test out some of my new nail polish to do some nail art. After looking around the internet and on pinterest, I decided to do something simple diagonal design with two colors. I decided to go with teal and gold since I thought the combo would look good. Below are the essie colors I used for the manicure.
As pretty as Turquoise & Calicos was, it was very streaky and watery, making the application process hell. Even at 3 coats, I wasn’t completely happy with it. It was still a little streaky in several places, which aren’t noticeable unless you look at it closely in person. I was worried that if I did too many layers, the polish would come off in sheets, which I’ve had happen in the past with other polishes. I painted a layer of top coat before continuing the rest of the manicure; making sure it was completely dry first, of course. I used scotch tape to tape off the section I wanted to paint over and used Good as Gold to paint over the rest. I peeled off the tape and painted one more layer of top coat to get the rest the final result you see below.
All of the pictures were taken in natural light, but the first two look more accurate of what the colors look like in real life. In the close up pics especially, you can tell that the lines aren’t perfect. It’s the first time I’ve used tape and didn’t take off the bottom nail polish, so despite the mistakes, I’m happy with it. I only figured out after I was done that I wasn’t supposed to do that. I found out from a few blogs that when using the tape, once you paint what you want to paint, you need to take off the tape ASAP so you don’t pull the polish off. Whoops. :O Luckily, that didn’t happen, but some of the nails on my right hand were slightly distorted from the tape, even though it still felt smooth. Oddly enough, the next day, those marks disappeared. Weird, but I’ll take it. 🙂
This would be my first manicure in quite some time that I’ve actually used a base coat and so far, it’s working really well and there haven’t been any chips at all so far. Despite how annoyed I was using Turquoise & Calicos, this mani came out really well in the end and I totally wanna try other tape designs in the future!
